A new LX/Morning Consult poll asks a national sample of Americans about their perceptions of barriers to candidacy and officeholding for women. They find that 39% of respondents, including 42% women and 35% men, report that the belief that the country isn’t ready for a woman president is a major barrier to women running for office. Another 28% of respondents (27% women and 29% men) see it as a minor barrier to women running for office. The poll also evaluates gendered perceptions of skills and qualifications for office, generally finding positive results for women.
