At a CNN town hall, Buttigieg is asked about how individuals react to his sexual orientation and the potential for making history in his presidential campaign. He explains, “I’m not running to be the gay president of the United States or the president of the gay United States. I’m out here to serve everybody, but I do think about the fact that this very thing that I thought may mean that I may never get to make a difference, never get to serve in uniform or in office…that this is one of the things that is helping me to make a difference before we even know the outcome of the campaign.”
