In coverage following the fifth Democratic presidential primary debate, CNN senior political analyst David Gergen says Warren has a “hectoring quality” about her, playing into gender stereotypes that intelligent or assertive women are unappealing or unbearable, while men displaying the same traits are more often touted as qualified and strong. Of Warren’s more aggressive plan for reform, he says: “I think it makes Warren – it increases the danger that she’s going to seem – she has a plan for everything. She’s going to throw everything out, start all over again. It seems both impractical, but there’s a hectoring quality there that I think reminds you of the worst aspects of impeachment.”
