In an interview with Axios, Harris shares that she has become “more candid” in addressing what she believes to be “the elephant in the room,” which is electability. She asks, “Is America ready for a woman and a woman of color to be president of the United States?” She explains: “There is a difficulty in imagining that someone who we have never seen can do a job that has been done 45 times by someone who is not that person.” Harris shares a story about campaigning for Obama in the 2008 contest and witnessing the electability doubts among voters. She concludes, “I’m aware of the challenges but I know who the people are and I know we have an ability to see what can be.”
