January 20, 2020 - Klobuchar Acknowledges Limitations of her Experiences as a White Woman

Recognizing the limitations of her own insights as a mother, Klobuchar shares at the Brown and Black Forum, “I don’t pretend I know what it’s like to walk into a maternity room swollen and walk right out because no one will listen.” When pressed about her policy plans to address racial disparities in reproductive health, she says that she would implement standards outlined in the Maternal CARE Act, legislation introduced by Harris, which provides funding for bias training and support for mothers on Medicaid. The full Black and Brown Forum, sponsored by VICE News, includes responses by multiple candidates on issues particularly important to Black and Brown communities.
