February 19, 2020 - Klobuchar Asked to Defend her Record on Racial Bias in Prosecutions

After reports scrutinizing her record as a prosecutor and calls from the Minneapolis chapter of the NAACP to suspend her campaign, Klobuchar is asked at the ninth Democratic debate why Black and Latino voters should her judgement. Klobuchar cites that she has asked for a review of the case involving possible wrongful conviction of a Black teenager and that all police-involved shootings up for prosecution during her tenure went to grand juries. She concludes: “I have the support of African-Americans in my community in every election. I had strong support and strong support of leadership. And that’s because I earned it. And this is going to be on me to earn it. You earn it with the — what you stand for when it comes to equal opportunity. You earn it with the work that I have done, the leadership I’ve shown on voting rights, and, yes, you earn it with the work that must be done on criminal justice reform.”
