October 15, 2019 - NYT Columnist Bret Stephens Calls Warren a “know-it-all”

In a dialogue with Gail Collins for The New York Times, columnist Bret Stephens describes Warren as “intensely alienating” and a “know-it-all.” Specifically, he says, “I’m pretty sure I speak for a lot of Americans in saying I find her intensely alienating, a know-it-all with a dozen half-baked plans for everyone and everything — all of which will fall apart when put to practice, as grandiose plans usually do.” While criticism of Warren’s capacity to make good on her promises is valid, the language mines veins of gender bias whereby intelligent and assertive women are perceived as both threatening (to male power) and unlikable. Stephens also argues Warren “probably can’t win the presidency.”
