O’Rourke releases a women’s equality plan with workplace protections for pregnant women and parents. He joins many other Democratic presidential primary candidates who have laid out policy plans to promote gender equity (see, for example, an early review of candidates’ gender-attentive agendas from CNBC), demonstrating a shift in presidential politics whereby issues formerly relegated to the sidelines – or only mentioned when speaking to women voters – have become both more mainstreamed and expected of all candidates, men and women alike.
