Despite Warren’s rise in support over the course of summer 2019, Politico Magazine publishes an article describing her handling of her Native American ancestry as her “biggest vulnerability.” While fact checks have shown Warren never used that identification to her professional advantage and despite multiple apologies she made for how she handled the issue in fall 2018, this article argues (and, by its publication, demonstrates) it remains an issue for her to navigate on the campaign trail. The expectation that women are more honest than men might contribute to this persistent scrutiny, as the story suggests Warren might have violated this expectation. President Trump also continues to call Warren “Pocahontas,” seeking to keep the issue present in voters’ minds.
