By June 2020, as racial justice protests increased nationwide, Democratic voters agree that it is important for Biden to choose a woman of color running mate. A USA Today/Suffolk University survey fielded in late June 2020 finds that 72% of Democrats agree, including 75% of white Democrats and 60% of Black Democrats. Among Democrats, 35% say it is “very important” to them that Biden’s running mate be a woman of color, 37% say it is “somewhat important,” and 26% say it is “not very” or “not at all” important.
