February 20, 2020 - Warren Addresses the Challenge of Talking Sexism on the Campaign Trail

At a CNN town hall, Warren is asked by an audience member about how to break through media bias against women candidates for president. She responds: “It’s a question we all struggle with every day. And I have to say, it’s one that is really tough for women candidates. I’m just going to be blunt about this because you kind of get caught in between — if you complain about it, then you’re whining; and if you don’t complain about it, the rest of the women think, ‘What planet are you living on?'” She calls for recognition that the world has changed since 2016 and that women have led the way in running in and winning elections. Addressing possible solutions to sexism against women running for president, Warren says that naming and calling out sexism “over and over” is part of the solution, but “nothing is going to work nearly as well as electing a woman president of the United States.”
