Love you, Bruce. I couldn’t do this without you by my side. pic.twitter.com/9ze7BFo2FW
— Elizabeth Warren (@ewarren) February 2, 2020
In a campaign tweet, Warren shares clips from a recent interview with her husband, Bruce Mann, and writes directly to him saying she could not wage this campaign without him by her side. An earlier CNN interview with both Warren and Mann highlighted Mann’s popularity among Warren supporters, his subdued but present role on the campaign trail, and the story of how the two met and were married. Navigating the campaign trail as a male spouse has been a site of both challenge and evolution over time, with previous women candidates opting not to bring much attention to their male partner due to gendered assumptions that men are the dominant partners in a male-female partnership. As these perceptions change, so has the role of men like Mann – as well as other spouses like Doug Emhoff (Harris) and Chasten Buttigieg – in the 2020 presidential race.
